Why learn singing at Lepus

  • Singing is our strongest program. Voice is the heart of our academy, and our vocal teaching is built around it.

  • One-on-one attention. Every lesson is private, so the whole lesson is shaped around your voice, your goals and your pace.

  • Bilingual teaching. Lessons in English or Mandarin (中文), ideal for bilingual families and for adults who feel more comfortable learning in Chinese.

  • All ages and levels. From young children singing their first songs to adults returning to music after many years.

  • Clear goals. Whether you want to pass an AMEB or Trinity exam, perform at a concert, audition for a school musical or simply sing better for fun, we plan lessons around that goal.

  • Local and easy to reach. Our studio is in the centre of Chatswood on Sydney's North Shore, convenient for families from Willoughby, Lane Cove, Artarmon, Roseville, Lindfield and nearby suburbs.

What you will learn

A healthy voice is built step by step. Depending on your level and goals, lessons cover:

Breathing and support

Good singing starts with breath. You will learn how to breathe low and steady, support long phrases and sing without straining your throat.

Pitch and ear training

We work on singing in tune, matching notes, hearing intervals and holding a harmony line. Ear training makes everything else easier, from learning new songs to singing with others.

Tone and resonance

You will discover how to make a clear, warm, free sound, and how to change your tone for different styles, from a soft ballad to a big musical theatre number.

Range and registers

We gently extend your range and smooth out the break between chest voice and head voice, so you can move through your voice with control.

Diction and language

Clear words matter. We work on diction in English, and for classical students on singing in other languages such as Italian. Mandarin songs are welcome too.

Musicianship and reading

Students learn rhythm, basic music reading and theory as they go, so they can learn songs faster and prepare for exams.

Performance and confidence

Singing is personal, and many students feel nervous at first. We build confidence step by step: stage presence, microphone technique, connecting with the audience and handling nerves.

Styles we teach

  • Pop and contemporary: chart songs, ballads and singer-songwriter styles.

  • Musical theatre: songs from the stage, character work and audition pieces.

  • Classical: art songs and classical repertoire with healthy, traditional technique.

  • Chinese and Mandarin songs: for students who want to sing in Chinese.

  • Choir and school singing: support for students in school choirs and ensembles.

Not sure which style suits you? We start with songs you enjoy and build technique from there.

Singing lessons for every age

Children

Young singers learn through fun, age-appropriate songs and games that build pitch, rhythm and a healthy voice. We keep lessons positive and encouraging, so children grow in confidence as well as skill. Please contact us to discuss whether your child is ready to start.

Teens

Teen students often have clear goals: school musicals, eisteddfods, HSC music, exams, auditions or simply singing their favourite songs well. We also help teens manage the voice changes that come with growing up.

Adults

It is never too late to start. Many adults come to us as complete beginners, or return to singing after years away. Lessons are relaxed, private and focused on what you want to achieve, whether that is singing at a family event, joining a choir or performing on stage.

Exam preparation: AMEB and Trinity

We prepare students for AMEB and Trinity singing exams. Exam preparation includes:

  • choosing suitable repertoire for your grade

  • technical work and exercises

  • aural and general knowledge preparation

  • sight-singing practice

  • mock performances so the real exam feels familiar

Exams give students clear milestones and recognised results. If you are not interested in exams, that is completely fine. Lessons can focus on the songs and styles you love.

Performance and concerts

Performing is a big part of becoming a confident singer. We help students prepare for:

  • student concerts and recitals

  • school performances, musicals and eisteddfods

  • auditions for schools, choirs and productions

  • community events, weddings and family occasions

We work on the whole performance: song choice, preparation, stage presence and microphone use, so you feel ready when it counts.

Lessons in English or Mandarin (中文授课)

Lepus is a bilingual music academy. Your singing lessons can be taught in English, in Mandarin, or a mix of both. This helps young students who are more comfortable in Chinese, parents who want to understand the lesson, and adults who prefer to learn in their first language. 我们提供中文授课的一对一声乐课,欢迎咨询。

  3. Sing a song you like, if you want to.

  4. Suggest a plan and answer your questions about lessons and times.

There is no need to prepare anything or to have sung before. Just come as you are.
